The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.

Summer arrived without warning. As I was comfortably observing the shift from winter to spring, it showed up much earlier than I was expecting.
The new season stood on my doorstep uninvited, with lots of luggage and two unlikely companions. Challenge and Obstacle locked arms with summer as they peered in through my window – a trio of heat, resistance and frustration.
The warm air marched in, took hold of the space around me and demanded my attention. All three began skipping around my heart like mischievous little children.
A season that is usually filled with beach trips and popsicles, pool days and sunburns, has been rife with unexpected changes and interesting circumstances. There will be no tan lines this year, the roar of crashing waves will have to be reserved for another time.
Yet, pain and scars are critical to our experience.
When we tell the stories of past heartaches and broken bones, we often speak of the injuries with a loving sense of nostalgia. It hurt so deeply in the moment, but that pain subsided long ago. What’s left is an experience that connects us to the past and links us to our memories.
It can be difficult to feel brave when you’re living through the eye of the storm. All you can focus on it making it through this moment, this hour, this day. Sometimes it helps to think back on past challenges and how grave they seemed at the time. You made it through then. You will make it through now.
You will make it through whatever stands in your way with more strength and confidence than ever before. The texture and pattern of your life’s story has prepared you for these moments.
