Dancing between too many roles, I left a trail of debris as I tried to escape anxiety and find my way to peace. But I learned what keeps me on the good path of creative expression. I learned what helps keep me open to good things that are meant for me- even as I struggled.
Creative expression can be fueled or foiled by anxious thinking. Thoughts that push back your creative juice are dangerous to keep around and can keep your brilliance dim and under wraps. Don’t let it. I want to share with you what has helped me to stay on the good path and keep me creative, thriving and balanced…with ease.
These are practices that work time and time again. They are why I do what I do and why the music I write and perform gets enjoyed.. It is a shorter path to joy and abundance that I travel… learning and teaching from my derails and detours…the good path leading home.
The ‘Good path practices’ are:
- soul/mind nourishment.
- active creative expression that serves.
- surrendering the fight.
- choosing your joy.
- affirmative Music and mindful practice.
The mindful practice part begins with letting your mind work for you, not against you. You were given a beautiful creative mind as a means to create your beautiful life. Use it. I used to let my thoughts gain momentum in the wrong direction until I was derailed for months, sometimes years. Now I have tools on hand to help me turn it around, helping me stay on the good path, doing what I love.
Do you know the “voice” in your head? You know the voice that hangs around telling you untruths of not being good enough, talented enough or worthy?
This is the mind’s voice.
You are not your mind’s voice. You are not your thoughts. As many times as I have heard this and know it- I still need reminding because I am human. And I think I am probably not the only one…
An easy way to step away from those anxious fearful thoughts and back into grounded flow is to become aware of your thoughts… become aware of yourself as the observer of these thoughts. Then visualize yourself as the observer, separate and distance from the voice…just calmly watching these silly thoughts swirl around while YOU stay calm and centered. You are visualizing a physical distance between YOU and the mind’s voice. Did you know that Music can help ease this visualization and ease anxious thoughts?
