Exploring your roots to discover your sparkling authentic self (part four in a series)

This is the last part of our creative journaling adventure. We have been digging down to explore our roots and discover our sparkling authentic selves. If you missed it, you can catch up with parts one, two and three, and play along however you feel inspired to play along.

Our next step is to look at how those gifts can sparkle and shine when we feel nourished.

When I feel nourished I can flourish. Here is how that looks for me:

I added a picture of a peony flower and painted words on top of it. And then spent some time absorbing the feeling of it and adding a few more decorations to my page and here it is:

art journal page: exploring roots

As you may have already guessed the real magic and adventure and possibility of creative journaling is not about what it looks like.

It’s all about what it feels like.

If you followed along on this creative journaling adventure – how did it feel to wonder what your roots look like? And how they nourish you? And who and what you can really be when you are fully nourished?

These roots are real. These feelings are real.

You have roots that stretch out deep and wide and connect you to everything. You can relax into them and let them support you as you reach for your biggest and brightest dreams.

And if creative journaling isn’t your thing you can find other ways to explore and express this for yourself. You can visualize it or dance it or write a story about it. It doesn’t matter how you explore and express, it only matters that you do.

I would really love to hear about how you are exploring your wondrous roots.

Exploring your roots to discover your sparkling authentic self (part three in a series)

This post is a part of a continuing creative journaling adventure. We are digging down to explore our roots and discover our sparkling authentic selves. The adventure began right here with part one, and carried on with part two.

When you are being properly nourished you can grow big and strong. You are free to explore your potential, your gifts and your dreams. On our creative journaling tree this is symbolized with a decoration – a garland. Here is mine:

You may want to make little stars or some other kind of decoration. Do what feels right for you. Just draw them on top of your tree or you can make them out of pieces of paper and glue them on top. I glued small circles of paper on top, and then painted them with glitter paint.

Once you have some kind of decoration in your tree – think about what each one means.

What are the gifts that you find when you dig down and explore your roots?

Here are mine:

the gifts of nourishment

They are:
  • interesting
  • power
  • healing
  • pleasure
  • dreams
  • inner reflections
  • understanding

There are no rules for how you come up with yours. What I do is open up to my intuition for the answers, flip through a book (a book I use just for cutting up for art projects) or a magazine and the right words just jump out at me.

You can also simply ask yourself. What are my gifts? And journal about it. You can meditate on it.

These are your gifts. This is your sparkle!

How does it feel to accept and wear these gifts?

Sit with your journal page and let it really sink in. You are so immensely gifted. Think about your roots digging deep and drawing in nourishment and how that allows you to shine. It allows you to discover and express your potential, your gifts and your dreams.

Here is what I wrote for this part:

accepting the gifts

If you are following along and creating your creative journal page – I’d love to see pictures! If you have them on your blog – post a link in the comments.

Exploring your roots to discover your sparkling authentic self (part two in a series)

This post is a part of a continuing creative journaling adventure. We are digging down to explore our roots and discover our sparkling authentic selves. If you missed part one, you can find it right here.

Our next step is to give our tree roots, which is quite simple:

tree roots

And add more, however you feel inspired to do so. It doesn’t matter what they look like. The purpose is to explore and discover – What kinds of roots does your tree have?

filling in the roots

When I did this part it kind of took my breath away.

I could feel my own roots, digging deep and all around me. I could feel how I am grounded and rooted and supported. And I felt really connected. I felt like my roots are connecting me to all of life. I felt less alone. I felt stronger – rooted, supported and solid. So I wrote that on the other side of my journal page:

roots page

Take a look at your roots and breathe it in.

How does it feel? What are your roots like? How does it feel to get in touch with your roots?
Write down whatever comes to you.

Your roots ground and nourish you.

They feed you and help you grow big and strong. A tree’s roots absorb nutrients through water in the earth.

What kinds of nourishment do your roots absorb?
To answer this question, ask your intuition, look at your picture and let the answers come to you. Write whatever comes to mind somewhere in your roots. Here is mine:

nourished roots

And how does it feel to see how you are being nourished?

What came up for me was an overwhelming sense of gratitude for being nourished. And freedom to be me. Getting down the my roots makes me feel very free to live my authentic life and be my authentic self. I saw how getting down to my roots is all about letting go of what does not serve me and what is not true for me and aligning with my greatest self. Here is what I wrote:

nourished roots journaling

Feel yourself sinking down into your roots and being nourished.

What comes to mind for you?

Journal about it on your page.

Our creative journaling adventure is ongoing. We will continue digging and exploring our roots to discover our sparkling authentic selves next time…

Exploring your Roots to Discover Your Sparkling Authentic Self | Andrea Schroeder

Whenever I think of Roots of She what comes to mind is a tree. Not just any tree, but my favourite tree. A magnificent tree. I see it in my mind’s eye and my imagination flows down below the grass beneath it to the roots. And I wonder – what kinds of roots does it take to hold and nourish such a magnificent tree?

Then I wonder – what kinds of roots does it take to hold and nourish such a magnificent being as you?

So I wanted to explore this in my creative journal and invite you along on the adventure. I’ll be doing this over the next few months, taking a few steps with it in each post.

If creative journaling is new to you you can read about it on my creative journaling page. Creativity injects journaling with magic and possibility and that is what we are going for here.

If you want to join in, here are the materials I will be using:

  • a journal or sheet of paper
  • a photo of a tree (from a photograph or magazine) or a drawing of a tree (does not have to be a “good” drawing)
  • glue, gluestick or tape to attach the tree to the page (not needed if you are drawing your tree)
  • pen, pencil or marker
  • paints (optional but fun)
  • pencil crayons (optional but fun)
  • glitters (optional but fun)

Step one:

Glue the tree photo into your journal, or do a tree drawing. Here is mine:

creative journaling page

Totally optional:

Paint a border around the tree. Here is mine:

creative journaling page

If you don’t have paint, you could also doodle a border or colour one with pencil crayons or markers.

So that’s not much but I want to go slow to give you a chance to find your tree and get organised.

Next time you will start digging in and exploring your roots.
